VEHA — адкрыты лічбавы архіў, дазваляючы супольнасці разам захоўваць мінулае. Архіў прапануе погляд на беларускую культуру праз паўсядзённае жыццё людзей, а не рэгламентаваныя наратывы. 

The discovery of the art of photography had a great impact on the documentation of events. Each archival photograph is an important document, it helps to understand and interpret the history of cities and certain groups. Belarusian archival photography was often interpreted through Russian or Polish narratives, which led to its marginalization or exclusion from academic and cultural discourses. Western scholarship often used external terminologies and models that did not take into account local specifics. VEHA, on the other hand, researches and highlights informal, vernacular photographic practices as documents of collective self-identification, and through their preservation resists historical disappearance. Belarus, located at the crossroads of East and West and shaped under the influence of numerous imperial formations. Today we are restoring our own distinctiveness, using the archives that are available to us - public ones.

To date, the VEHA archive contains 10 thematic collections:

The Best Side — portraits against the background of a woven carpet
Earthly Paradise — portraits against the background of a painted carpet or studio backdrop
Girls’ Night — wedding photos  
The Last Photo — funeral photos
White Tablecloth — photos of table gatherings
People of the Forest — a person hugging or sitting on a tree
Herodotus’ Sea — photos of river, lake or swamp
Old Earth — photos with stones and boulders
Ruins of Belarus — photos of the background of ruined buildings  
Wooden World — photos of wooden buildings 

Work with photo collections is carried out through a phased approach: collecting digital copies, processing signatures and cataloging, analyzing materials, preparing research texts. The results are presented through exhibitions that combine archival material with contemporary artistic interpretations, as well as through printed publications. By reimagining the photographic archive not as a sanctioned repository but as an emotional and communal act of preservation, we create a database of materials as a source of knowledge about the past.

Адкрыццё мастацтва фатаграфіі аказала вялікі ўплыў на дакументаванне падзей. Кожная архіўная фатаграфія – гэта важны дакумент, яна дапамагае зразумець і інтэрпрэтаваць гісторыю гарадоў і пэўных груп.Беларуская архіўная фатаграфія часта інтэрпрэтавалася праз расейскія або польскія наратывы, што прыводзіла да яе маргіналізацыі або выключэння з акадэмічных і культурных дыскурсаў. Заходняя навука часта ўжывала знешнія тэрміналогіі і мадэлі, якія не ўлічвалі лакальную спецыфіку. VEHA ж даследуе і вылучае нефармальныя, вернакулярныя практыкі фатаграфавання, як дакументы калектыўнай самаідэнтыфікацыі, і праз іх захавання нясе супраціў гістарычнаму знікненню. Беларусь, размешчаная на скрыжаванні Усходу і Захаду і сфармаваная пад уплывам шматлікіх імперскіх утварэнняў. Сёння мы аднаўляем уласную адметнасць, выкарыстоўваючы тыя архівы, якія нам даступныя – грамадскія. 

На сённяшні дзень архіў VEHA утрымлівае 10 тэматычных калекцый:

Мора Герадота – фота ракі, возера ці балота
Старая зямля – фота з камянямі і валунамі
Руіны Беларусі – фота на фоне разбураных будынкаў
Драўляны Свет – фота драўляных пабудоў

Праца з фотакалекцыямі ажыццяўляецца праз паэтапны падыход: збор лічбавых копій, апрацоўка подпісаў і каталагізацыя, аналіз матэрыялаў, падрыхтоўка даследчых тэкстаў. Вынікі прадстаўляюцца праз выстаўкі, якія спалучаюць архіўны матэрыял з сучаснымі мастацкімі інтэрпрэтацыямі, а таксама праз друкаваныя выданні. Пераасэнсоўваючы фотаархіў не як санкцыянаванае сховішча, а як эмацыйны і супольны акт захавання, мы ствараем базу дадзеных матэрыялаў як крыніцу ведаў пра мінулае.
